A graduate of art history at the Jagiellonian University, assistant professor and director of the Institute of Art History at the Jagiellonian University. In 1998 he obtained a doctoral degree (doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Prof. Jerzy Gadomski), and in 2007 he obtained his habilitation. His scientific preferences focus on European gothic art (mainly architectural sculpture and woodcarving, painting, artistic craftsmanship), with particular emphasis on the art of the Piast and Jagiellonian era in Krakow. Other subjects of his research are also Christian iconography, mainly hagiographic, and images of church hierarchs.

Sholarship holder of Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel (1992), Charles University in Prague (1993), Foundation for Polish Science (2003); several times of the Lanckoroński from Brzezie Foundation.

Member of the Art History Commission of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (Komisja Historii Sztuki Polskiej Akademii Umiejętności) and of Art Historians Association (Stowarzyszenie Historyków Sztuki). Head of the Department of the History of Medieval Art at the Institute of Art History of the Jagiellonian University. In the years 2008–2012 deputy director, since 2016 he has been the director of the Institute of Art History of the Jagiellonian University.
